Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra IV - Colombia

As part of the Transfiguration Series, the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra performs the following works: 6 Microstructures by Germán Borda, Tod und Verklärung Opus 24 by Richard Strauss, and Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in B minor Opus 61 by Edward Elgar.  The concert features Brazilian conductor Ligia Amadio and violin soloist Shlomo Mintz.

The Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1967 and is attached to the District Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sports.  The orchestra will perform ten concerts throughout the year at Teatro Mayor with outstanding guests.

In 2014, the Orchestra will aesthetically focus on the twentieth century.  This seeks to give the audience  a comprehensive picture of the worldview brought along by the twentieth century, starting from the Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun– a work that opens the century.  From there onwards, Colombian composers who marked the century are linked alongside, not on a chronological basis, but by aesthetic trends.
