Antonio Gades Company, Flamenco Dance – Spain

Antonio Gades Company is, since its inception, one of the most important representatives of flamenco dance.  Gades made Spanish dance a universal style with wide expressive power that allowed him to carry out speechless classics of world literature such as Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding) by Federico Garcia Lorca and Fuenteovejuna by Lope de Vega.  This company comes to Bogota with two wonderful works: Bodas de Sangre and Suite Flamenca.

In 1974, Gades's company released Crónica del suceso de bodas de sangre (Chronicle of the Blood Wedding event) - a piece which was destined to become an essential reference point for Spanish dance.  The universal value of Lorca's story reached limits that were infinitely multiplied when Carlos Saura came into play in 1981 and took the ballet to worldwide screens.

On the other hand, Suite Flamenca addresses seven traditional flamenco dance pieces (Soleá, Soleá por bulerías, Farruca, Zapateado, Tanguillo, Tangos de Málaga and Rumba) under the light of Gades.  This work was described at the time as a modern and classical reference to flamenco choreography.
