Opening of the 40th Mono Núñez Festival - Colombia

The Mono Núñez Festival is the most important event of Andean music, and takes place every year in Ginebra, Valle.  Teatro Mayor will host the opening of this important music festival, with participation of Trio Macaregua and Las Comadres de José, winners of the Festival in 2013.

Las Comadres de José is a female vocal group that performs different rhythms of Colombian music with a cappella arrangements.  They were the winners of the Grand Prix Mono Núñez.

On the other hand, instrumental Trio Macaregua was created in 2004 in order to exalt the native rhythms of the Colombian Andean region.  All of its members are students of the music faculty at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga.  They were the winners of the Grand Prix Instrumental Mono Núñez 2013.

The Mono Núñez Festival originated in 1975, when a group of people from the town of Ginebra, Valle, decided to make a contest of Andean music.  Given the success of the first contest and good reception from the audience, managers and some inhabitants of Ginebra decided to create in 1976 a foundation with the aim of managing the contest.
